Dobbins, as known as Sphyramid, playing a show at Zippy's Late Night.

Under the name Sphyramid, Dobbins performs what he refers to as "intelligent dance music."

"I am influenced by 90's hip hop and R&B, video games and anime," said Dobbins, "but I still hold on to the punk rock and metal [I started with.]"

Before he went by Sphyramid, Dobbins was a part of a number of bands.

After joining and leaving his first "crazy grindcore psychedelic death metal" band, Dobbins found different musical influences and formed a band with Nick Walthew called "Fighter X."

The two parted ways and Dobbins began playing independently. After performing at Zippy's Open Mic, Dobbins became the Late Night manager in June 2009.

"Most people use software to make their music, I use hardware," said Dobbins.
Using a KORG Electribe SX1 and a KORG Kaoss Pad 3, Dobbins is able to sequence different sounds and melodies into songs.
