It's springtime!!! As the flowers and sunshine start to spring up at Everett Community College, so do free and inexpensive events around the area. Money is often tight as the winter quarter and weather end. However, there is no need to stay inside or stress about things to do to make spring break exciting and eventful.
The Seattle Art Museum is absolutely free the first Thursday of every month! As well, the Seattle Asian Art Museum is free the first Thursday of every month. The museum is hosting events this spring that include politics and Islam, Buddhism and human rights, and ritual music to world pop.
The Olympic Sculpture Park along the waterfront is free all year-round.
It's a great place to walk around while heading to the famous Pike's Place Market filled with fun stores, food and flower shops.
The Museum of Flight in Seattle is free the first Thursday of every month from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Free parks include Green Lake and Alki Beach Park with entertaining and hip bars and restaurants; there are almost always young people hanging out on the water.
The Fremont Troll, a huge troll holding a Volkswagen Beetle, is a classic sight to visit and is located under the north end of the Aurora Bridge at North 36th St. Just down the street is Gasworks Park, an abandoned coal plant, with hills to fly kites, spots to picnic, views of the Space Needle and sail boats on Lake Union.
The Woodland Park Zoo Rose Garden, located near the zoo's the south entrance , is also free. While there, you can drop into the Zoo and walk around for as little $11 for adults and $8 for children. Make sure to go before April 30 because prices increase after that date.
If you would rather stick around the northern area for spring things to do, there are tons of outdoor activities.
Surprisingly, there are a lot of waterfalls to visit. Alpine Falls and Deception Falls are located from Everett or Monroe, driving east on Highway 2.
The Centennial Trail runs all the way from Snohomish to Arlington and is built on an abandoned railroad. It's a great place to get into summer shape by jogging, walking or biking.
The Imagine Children's Museum in Everett offers half-price admission of $3.75 on Thursdays from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m: your kids will love it here, and have a good time while learning.
There is also an awesome kangaroo zoo in Arlington that is very inexpensive. The Outback Christmas Tree and Kangaroo Farm has kangaroos, wallabies, llamas, peacocks, ostriches and more! Admission is only $8.
With all these economical events that are extremely fun and a great way to start spring break, there is no reason to stay inside or say 'there is nothing to do.' So grab the car keys, a couple dollars and some friends; that's all you're going to need to have a good time.
