The men's and women's track teams look to build on earlier success.
During cross-country in the fall, the Trojan women took the NWAACC title and the men came in second.
"We have a chip on our shoulder from the fall and we want Everett runners to win every single distance race," said Sophomore Tim Welch.
The Trojans have had a unique rivalry with the Community Colleges of Spokane during Matt Koenigs' tenure as head coach.
The Trojan women have been second every year except this last fall when they took the team title. The men have been second to Spokane every year and have continued the trend last fall.
However, the men have gotten closer and closer to Spokane every year. Better recruiting and great coaching have been the formula for the Trojan's recent success.
Coach Matt Koenigs has taken advantage of technological advancements for recruiting purposes, using Myspace and Facebook as two of his main recruiting tools, especially for out-of-area runners.
The Trojan team currently has two women from Spokane and one woman from the tri-cities area. The men's side has two men from Spokane, one from Cashmere, one from the tri-cities, one from Connell and one man from Chicago.
Runners to watch for this year include Krissy McGill, Shawna Schooley, Kelly Talkington and Kelly Brown on the women's side. On the men's, the runners to watch are Tim Welch, Yon Yilma, Emmanuel Contreras and Justin Marshall.
The Trojans have some very high expectations coming into this track season. "Our team goal is to get as many people to NWAACS as possible because we don't have a full scoring team," said sophomore Krissy McGill.
The Trojans are only allowed to do distance events starting from the 800-meter race up to the 10,000-meter race.
The teams' first meet is on March 13 at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma.
