"I'm not so sure if we were ever really over that UCLA loss... we were so charged up after last week and all of a sudden I thought we became somewhat deflated," said UW coach Lorenzo Romar.
Poor play and tough losses aren't the only embarrassments that have marred the Pac-10 this season. A Dec. 31 game between Oregon and Washington State had one the most bizarre and controversial outcomes in recent memory.
Oregon defeated WSU 91-89 with a little help from the boisterous crowd in Pullman. WSU had just made what appeared to the winning basket in the waning seconds of regulation, when the excited Cougar faithful were called for a crowd technical for excessive celebration. The Ducks made the necessary free throws to force overtime and eventually won in double-overtime in what fans of both schools will not soon forget.
The most embarrassing moment comes from the Beavers of Oregon State, when the Beavers were blown out at home by Seattle University 99-48. Seattle is an independent school that is only in its second year since regaining Division-I status.
WSU's Klay Thompson leads the Pac-10 with 22.3 points per game. UW's Quincy Pondexter is third in scoring.
