Harper is widely known for her song "All Over Me," which was featured on the soundtrack of the movie "Loving Annabelle."

Born of musician parents, Harper is the middle child of three. Harper started to sing when she was just 6 years old in front of her family and relatives. She soon became used to performing in theatres, many family gatherings and local shows.

Harper credits the movie "Mary Poppins," in part, for inspiring her love of singing.

As a child, Harper also struggled with dyslexia, a learning disorder that manifests itself as a difficulty with reading. Harper first discovered her condition when she was an elementary school student.

"My parents were always there to help me with studies and to support me through my struggle in learning," Harper said, "I am grateful though, the learning disabilities experience has made me who I am today. Without the hardships to overcome it, I wouldn't be able to appreciate all these outcomes."

Growing up in Los Angeles, Harper sharpened her natural singing voice in a private singing school before attending high school, but her introduction to the world of the recording studio and came only five years ago.

"I decided to be a singer because I want to inspire people-- to make them discover who they really are, and to help them realize that there's more to life than just the daily routine," Harper said.

When asked about the hardest part of becoming a singer, the singer smiled. "It would be keeping you motivated in a business such as these. There are up and down times where you feel like you want to just give up, but my family and fans have been a great support for me to keep going and to keep pushing through," she said.

"My future goals professionally are to be able to travel around the world with my music, and as for personal goals, I would love to just have a comfortable life," Harper said.

Although this is her first time in Washington state; the singer admits that she really likes its people and nature.

"The people are very nice and receptive, and the air is just like when you're in a mountain- fresh," Harper said.

A huge fan of jazz and the blues, Lindsey Harper favors singers such as Eva Cassidy and Bonnie Raitt.

Harper plans to continue her tour with a performance at Eastern Washington University before going south to Portland and, finally, attending the Sundance film festival in Park City, Utah.

Next in the lineup of free performances on campus is Derek Hughes, the multi-tasking magician who also works as an actor and comedian. Hughes performs in the Multipurpose Room of the Parks Student Union building on Thursday, Jan. 21.
