Everett Community College is joining the statewide celebration of the 70th birthday celebration of "parenting cooperative" preschools in Washington state.
What this all means is that on Oct. 23 a celebration will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Clover Park Technical College to commemorate a program that helps students learn how to balance the role of being a parent and a college student. The Child and Family Education (CAFÉ) program here at EvCC helps the parents of young children ranging from 18 months to five years of age gain parenting knowledge, while earning below 100 level credits. Some faculty members at EvCC help with this, having roles as parent educators.
These EvCC cooperative preschools are located in Darrington, Everett, Lake Stevens, Marysville, Snohomish, Stanwood, Sultan and Tulalip, as well as on campus at the Early Learning Center.
Governor Christine Gregoire deemed Oct. 23 as Parenting Education Day in Washington state. Leslie Goldstein, Gregoire's executive policy advisor on early education will be representing the Governor. State Representative Ruth Kagi will give the keynote address as well as introduce Senator Patty Murray, who will be speaking to the audience through video.
